Trustees Unlimited sources potential candidates from multiple channels. We have our own database of over 1,000 senior people from the private, public and civil society sectors who have a variety of functional backgrounds. We also search through other channels including through our strategic partners such as the Financial Times Non Executive Club, British Telecom, the National Union of Students, Black on Board, Getting on Board, Women Like Us, the Institute of Fundraising and Russam GMS's database of 12,000 senior executives.

Trustees Unlimited offers a simple and adaptable process and for smaller organisations (organisations with a turnover less than £1m) has developed a Basic Service, details below. Taking the brief is the most important element of any recruitment process and we will want to make sure we really understand the requirements of the role(s). This will involve at least one face to face meeting with the Chair/Chief Executive or senior trustee in charge of the selection process and a conversation with all the members of the nominations committee. We are happy to help draw up a person specification and job description if required and we commit to keeping you informed of progress throughout the process.

Candidates are asked to address how they meet the requirements of the person specification in their application. Trustees Unlimited will conduct an initial sift of the applicants and will interview long listed candidates. Sometimes organisations wish to review all applications and instruct us who to interview and other times organisations leave the initial long listing to our judgement.

Reports are written on the interviewed candidates and you will be presented with a report against which you can short list. We aim to deliver a recommended shortlist within 5 weeks of taking the brief. We will take references for short listed candidates and are happy to help with your steps in the process such as sitting on final panel interviews.

The Standard service consists of the recruitment process as outlined above. The appointed trustee(s) will have a free place at a half-day trustee induction workshop run jointly by BWB/NCVO which occurs twice per year; a substantially reduced fee on a delegate place at the next NCVO/BWB Governance Conference; and a complimentary copy of the Good Trustee Guide produced by NCVO.

The Basic service is for organisations with a turnover of less than £1m. Following a one hour briefing conversation (usually on the phone) between the selection committee or nominated person of the recruiting organisation and Trustees Unlimited, a search will be conducted of the Trustees Unlimited database and other channels. Candidates who express an interest in the role will have their unvetted details forwarded on to the recruiting organisation.

Trustees Unlimited has been set up in such a way so that a wide variety of organisations can use its services cost-effectively. We are aware of the financial commitment required to undertake a recruitment process of this nature and so we have tried to remove the financial risk by ensuring that, apart from a small initial engagement fee, the balance is only payable on successful appointment. A supplement of 10% will be added where a candidate is appointed as Chair or Chair designate.
